Photography and Filmmaking: Create original photographs and short films that engage, inform and delight UNCG’s many audiences and stakeholders. Images are used for an exceptionally wide range of creative documentary and communications purposes, from photojournalism to student recruitment to architectural. Images are produced for use in all media.

Project Management: Works closely with university leadership to develop and implement visual communications strategies to meet institutional goals. Develop, coordinate and execute projects, plan and programs related to photography and films.

Consulting and Advising: Provide consultation to designers, clients and other constituents to ensure media is compatible to the design and institutional image. Advise administrators on creative visual approaches and assist with the implementation, planning, development, and designing of visual media.

Museum Exhibit & Print
Design
: Production of 2D and 3D designs for projects from large museum exhibit installation to single printed piece. Work included graphic design, working with fabricators to produce museum furniture, signage, and printed material. Presentation of concepts and final plans to large groups and production of all presentation materials.

 

Photographer & Museum Exhibit Designer 1983-1994
Hagley Museum & Library, Wilmington, Delaware
Photographer: Documentary photography of historic industrial sites and workers. Architectural photography and studio photography of museum artifacts. Technical documentation of archaeological sites and artifacts. Darkroom work including making prints from historic glass plate and nitrate negatives and production of archival and exhibit black and white prints. Managed darkroom activities. Worked closely with curators to set standards for photography in museum environment. Wrote and illustrated grant documents and gave presentations to funding agencies.

Museum Exhibit Design:
Creation of the display and graphics used in Hagley Museum’s exhibits, starting from the development of the exhibit narrative, through production of concept drawings, detailed working drawings, and finally supervision of fabrication and installation. The design position also included graphic design and production of collateral material, design of text labels, and environmental signage. Exhibit topics ranged from early nineteenth-century drawings to contemporary Finnish art.

Creating architectural, editorial and documentary photographs. Location photography produced in black and white and color for an array of clients who used in work in print and multi-media (slide based) products. Work included black and white darkroom work and programing of multi-projector slide shows using AVI equipment. Extensive use of electronic flash lighting. Camera formats from 35mm to 4×5 used to produce the photos. Photographic services were marketed to universities, advertising agencies and magazines.

 

Photographer 1978-81
Macon Telegraph & News, Macon, Georgia
Editorial and Commercial Photography: Drinnon Studio was a self-supporting division of the Macon Telegraph and News newspaper that provided a wide range of commercial photographic services to central Georgia and back-up support for the editorial department of the newspaper. This position involved the production of editorial, architectural, and commercial photographs using 35mm, 120 and 4 x5 camera formats. The position also included substantial amounts of black and white, and color darkroom work using E-6, C-41 and EA4 processes. Many of the commercial assignments included extensive electronic flash lighting setups. The majority of assignments were produced on location and the largest client was Mercer University.

 

Photographer & Automotive Editor 1972-78
Chilton Book Company, Radnor, Pennsylvania
My professional photographic career began in 1972 at the Chilton Book Company. Chilton published repair manuals for cars, motorcycles, and trucks in addition to books for general audiences. At Chilton I wrote automotive service procedures and made photographs of the steps involved in the repair. In addition to the technical images, I photographed assignments for general interest books ranging from the 1973 ISDT (International Six Days Trial) motorcycle endurance race to the Philadelphia Flyers Stanley Cup hockey championship of 1975.
